Sorry for the very late post. I took advantage of a really beautiful day and did a little cloud watching. While gazing skyward, I took in a healthy dose of vitamin D from the sun and felt any stress I was carrying around float away like those fair weather cumulus overhead. What have you done lately to be good to yourself and improve your overall well-being? Have you tried yoga? Been to an acupuncturist? Consulted with a nutritionist? Enjoyed a massage or other therapy at a spa? If you have, you’re part of a growing number of people seeking ways to complement important regular doctor visits in search of wellness.
Merriam-Webster Online defines wellness as the quality or state of being in good health especially as an actively sought goal. I love the “actively sought” part. In recent years, many people have come to think of wellness as encompassing aspects of their lives beyond the physical, including emotional, mental and spiritual health. Employers encourage their workers to be proactive in increasing physical activity, reducing stress and improving their diets, along with other healthy habits.
The beauty industry embraced wellness some years ago with products incorporating the benefits of aromatherapy, while some spas added treatments based on ayurveda, or natural healing, to their menus. The concept of wellness is catching on and is driving new ideas in not just beauty but in all aspects of life. There should be a lot to talk about!
